Nico was our one and only grand-puppy. He was a Golden Doodle who had the sweetest, most loving temperament I’ve ever witnessed in a dog. We only had Nico in our lives for five short years before he tragically left us, but he will always live on in a special corner of my heart.
Even though it’s been over a year since he passed, I still miss him when I visit my daughter and her family. They have two cats now, Ginger and Joey, but no one can ever take the place of this big boy who was full to the brim with life and love and fun.

Getting over the loss of a pet is never easy, and is particularly hard for animal lovers like our family. I can’t imagine what it will be like to lose my cats when that time comes. Then again, maybe they will outlive me.
Have you lost a special dog, cat or other animal recently?

He was a cutie! The kids have a shadow box full of mementos of him hung on the wall. And we all have tons of pictures and videos.

Nico looked like a stuffed animal when he was a puppy, Jennifer. Hard not to fall in love with that face. And I know that losing a pet is terribly painful. Pinky the Cat, who used to guest post on my blog, died in September. We’re without a cat now, and sometimes the urge to welcome another is hard to resist.

Thanks for commenting, Diana. So sorry about Pinky. As precious as they are, even cats are a responsibility. I don’t know what we’ll be doing when our cats pass on. We may get another pet and we may not — it hurts so much to lose them. Time will tell.

What a sweet face – I’m in love with your grand puppy just seeing his pictures.I especially like his little puppy picture and the one of him flying through the air. Saying goodbye to our animals is never easy.

Thank you, Barbara. That one of him jumping in the air is Paul’s favourite too because he was the one playing with him at the time, getting him to run and jump. 🙂

Heart warming memories that stay with us forever. My special boy was Harry, a field spatial with the softest coat and heart in the whole wide world 💕

Oh how gorgeous Nico was, you can tell from the pictures what fun he was. It’s always heart-breaking to lose a pet – we had 5 cats who we lost over just a few years and each one was devastating.

Andrea, that was a lot of loss in just a few years. It must have been very painful. Nico died suddenly, and I was there with the family when it happened. That made it even more traumatic. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone or any doggie. Thanks for commenting. xx

It is never easy, and you never forget the sweetness (and mischief!) they brought into our lives. My supervisor had her dog put down yesterday. She was a rescue that she had for 15 years. She told me about it after everyone had left the office and we stood there hugging and crying.

Lois, that is so sad. Sometimes a pet means more than one can imagine. Thanks for sharing your touching comment. 💔

Thank you so much. I kept putting off this post because the pain is still sharp, but then I realized there is never a right time. The tears showed up anyway.
