About Jennifer

Hi there, and welcome to my Author website and my blog, Jennifer’s Journal, where my passion for life and all that I love is an open book. I invite you to kick off your shoes, get comfortable and stay awhile.

In between working on my novels, I update Jennifer’s Journal once or twice a week. My blog is my hangout for sharing thoughts and observations on life here on Perry’s Point and my corner of the world in general, through poetry, prose, musings, and local and travel photography. I also offer writing and blogging advice under the heading For Writers & Bloggers.

Here is where this blog began:  Follow the Yellow Brick Road

English: Newfoundland and Labrador Province wi...
Newfoundland and Labrador, Province within Canada.

In 2010, my husband and I sold our house, packed up our belongings and of course our cats, Maisie and Vivian, and left the city behind to return to rural life in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.  Our hope is to continue living simply, authentically, and with profound gratitude in this beautiful province we are proud to call home.

I have finished the engaging sequel to my recently published novel, Calmer Girls, a realistic coming-of-age tale set here in Newfoundland. Calmer Secrets – Calmer Girls II was released on March 21, 2017 at all Amazon stores.

  1. Good luck to you when you begin your novel. For now, you’re doing a good thing–keeping a journal. It’s what I like to think of as “gathering data.”

  2. Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for visiting and now following my blog “arnnarn.com”. It, like the book it precedes, has been and is a labor of love.. much like I believe your beautiful poems to be. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more of your writing.

  3. Hi Jennifer,

I don’t know if you were aware of it, but around the time you started following my blog “arnnarn.com”, I was trying to reach a goal of a certain number of followers. When I reached that goal, the follower who got me to that number would receive a free, signed copy of my “Arn? Narn.” book upon publication. You are that person! Congratulations!

The book is due out in early October and I would like to send it to you. If you could send me the pertinent info, just your address, I’ll get it up to you. For confidentiality (and not posting here on your blog), if you would rather e-mail me the info, which I recommend, you can send it to bmeisterman@comcast.net.

Also and this is not necessary, if you wouldn’t mind, I would like to post that you won the book into one of my next blog entries. I would only mention your name, your blog and that you won.

    Thanks again for following “arnnarn.com”.

Go ahead, of course, with including me in your blog entry, and I will send my address to you as requested. Thank you! And thank you as well for following my blog. 🙂

    1. Good morning, and thank you for following me back. It is quite a journey, isn’t it, this novel writing? We should check in on each other from time to time for moral support. Good luck to you too!

  4. Oh, I’m so glad I found you, kindred spirit! I have always had a completely irrational longing to go to Newfoundland/Labrador. Seriously, I know absolutely no one else, who thinks about going there, and I’ve stopped mentioning it to anyone because when I do, I get a weird look that says, “you’ve got to be kidding”–because almost no one among my acquaintances even knows where it IS! I know that’s a very sad commentary on the way geography is taught in US schools, but it’s true.

Who knows whether I’ll ever be able to make that trip–but now I can do it vicariously through your writing and photography! Thank you!

  6. Hi Jennifer what an amazing thing to do ! I often hanker to live a life at one with nature and the sea ( can’t return to my roots as that is London and I have no inclination to live there again!) But I love the sea …just not brave enough and my husband and I ( ewe I sound like the queen) have to many roots binding us right now ……… but there is always the future. That said I love our house and where we life but I do have dreams. Be well, be happy and be blessed! xxx

    1. Thank you Willow, for your kind comment. I would be the first person to agree that this is not the life for everyone, but we truly are contented here. I think part of it too is the stage of life you happen to be in, and what best suits your wants and needs. One day you might decide to pull up stakes and make a change. Stranger things have happened. Some dreams are meant to be acted upon. 😉

  7. Hi Jennifer! Love your blog.I was wondering if you would be interested in participating in a Blog Tour on the writing process. Long story short, you would answer 4 questions about what you’re writing and your writing process and then pass the torch onto 3 other writers. Let me know. Will send details if you’re interested.

    1. Well, there is only the Atlantic Ocean between us! 🙂 I live in a rural little Canadian community on the northeast tip of North America, and it is very quiet and peaceful here too, much like Greenspond. I see you are in Sweden, somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit. And your blog looks wonderful! Will follow back. Thanks. xx

Maybe one day I will get to see Sweden. Nice to meet you too. 🙂

  9. Hello Jennifer, I’m happy to have found your blog through the wonderful site for The Siren’s Tale. I’m looking forward to sitting with a cup of coffee and staying awhile to visit your site further. 🙂 Right about a year ago I started blogging as a means of connecting through storytelling, supporting writers, and maintaining discipline with exercising technical skills, and though I’m fairly casual in my blogging approach I’m thrilled by the energetic and diverse writing community I’ve happened upon with WordPress. I’m always appreciative to find new writing and art to explore. Happy writing, photographing, and travels to you!

    1. Thank you, I’m happy you found me too! 😉 WordPress is pretty wonderful, isn’t it? I have been blogging here for two and a half years now, and I have to admit, it is rarely a chore for me to come up with a post idea. And the feedback and blogger friendships have been fantastic.
What are you interested in writing about? I will be visiting your blog very soon, but in the meantime, do come back for another visit. Cheers and thanks again!

      1. Thank you, and yes WordPress is an amazing environment! I’m not too structured with my blogging, I don’t think I have a theme or agenda–other than hopefully offering some positive energy–I just enjoy the sharing of artistic vision and energy, learning from others, and letting loose a little with not adhering to strict writing rules. At the time, in terms of crafting manuscripts, I’m focused on a poetry project and a children’s book. Poetry is a main focus I’ve had throughout my life. I will definitely be visiting more, and thank you for taking the time to stop by! I also hope to get more photography up soon, haven’t had a workable camera for awhile. Good to meet you.
        🙂

  10. Hi Jennifer, I finally managed to check out your blog too, and I must say I’m happy to have done so. It’s nice to find a fellow writer and photographer here. I admire that you have turned your back on the rat-race and pursue a more”simple” life in the countryside. That’s what I also hope to do eventually.
Have a nice day, I’m looking forward to read more of your posts.

    1. Always nice to find someone with so much in common!

As for the country life, my husband and I are fully enjoying it and have no regrets; we seem to be suited to the lifestyle. I’ll admit that the first winter was a challenge, missing folks in the city, and everything I was used to. But now I can’t imagine moving back unless I live to be very old and need to be closer to the amenities and of course family.

I look forward to keeping up on your blog too. Thanks. x

    1. Hi, Carrie. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring your blog. Loved the Dexter post and the one about Dr. Laura especially (don’t get me started on that woman! lol). I will be back to read more soon, and to check out your book. Two things we have in common besides blogging and writing: I’m a true blue introvert also, and my mom’s name is (or was) Carrie. Thanks for the follow!

    1. Yes, I have already gotten that one, but thanks for the nomination, I appreciate it. I will answer your last question: what kind of tree would I be? A tuckamore, for its ability to survive against adversity. Google the definition if you aren’t familiar with it; I think it fits me to a tee. 🙂
