The old adage “good fences make good neighbours” is a wise one, and it is usually true.

And yet, some neighbours don’t have any.
The fences we had once upon a time are long gone,
with only rolling lawns between us now.

And more pleasant neighbours you would never find. W and M are the coolest folks.
(That’s our house in the background, and W’s new bird-house in the foreground.)

Grandma M’s pot will soon be overflowing!

…and those bloomers will be blooming.

Good one, W and M. Let’s just hope Maisie and Vivian don’t drive away your new feathered tenants – or worse!

All of this neighbourly talk brings this timely quote to mind:

Whether the borders that divide us are picket fences or national boundaries, we are all neighbors in a global community.
– Jimmy Carter

  1. We live in a high rise community within Vancouver. Condo living has changed the way in which we live, including the way we look at fences. There are many kinds of fences, many which are unseen. Your post reminds me that we need to create compassionate communities wherever we are.

  2. Jennifer, it’s looks so welcoming to humankind and birdlife … beautiful home for your family and let’s hope the birds find their special birdhouse! It’s wonderful to have such good friendly neighbours … may the fence remain down, I like the global thoughts of the post and the final quote – may more remember that this is a ‘global community’!

    1. Thank you, Annika. It’s so true what you mention about global community. We are all more alike than we are different, and they are all our children. What has been happening in our world distresses and scares me to no end. I pray for the little ones who have no voice, or who aren’t heard, above all. ❤️

  3. Jennifer, like the other respondents I love your house and the area with the clean and bright colours.
To have so nice neighbours is an enormous bonus. With such cute bird house.

I do also love the quote by Jimmy Carter. Let us hope it comes true.

  4. Our new neighbors on one side of us, came in and demolished the (previously) beautiful house inside, re-landscaped, put up a privacy fence and we never see them. Ever. Sad thing. Your neighbors sound lovely.

    1. Oh my, Lois, not nice neighbours at all. Living alongside each other doesn’t mean becoming best buds, but at least they could be civil and halfway friendly. I’ve lived next to a few like that when I lived in the city. To each his own I guess.

    1. So true, Barbara. We definitely lucked out here in that regard. And bright colours are a must around here to offset the chilly gray days. But as I type this, the sun is shining and the weather is warming up nicely. Have a lovely Sunday! xo
