The time has come to blog about something I’ve always dreaded, and the tears will be inevitable as I write it.
It has taken me a while to accept the heartbreaking fact that, after a brief but devastating illness, our precious Vivian is no longer with us.

Life is too quiet now. Our home will never be the same. Perry’s Point will never be the same. I’m still grieving far too much to make these words eloquent, so just know that our pain and loss is real.
Vivian was our constant companion and our family member for over sixteen wonderful years. Her love and her devotion to Paul and me was unconditional and mutual. She will remain in our hearts forever.

My hope is that she is reunited with her sister Maisie, enjoying all kinds of capers, cuddles and catnaps in a sweet kitty afterlife.

🐾 🐾 ❤️❤️ 🐾 🐾

Rest easy, sweet kitty!
I’m sharing Vivian’s first guest post on my blog from 2012 below:

Jennifer, I am so sad for your loss. Through your photos and descriptions of her I felt she became an integral part of your blog, and can well-understand the deep sorrow for you and Paul and the emptiness left behind. Hugs galore xx

Thank you, Annika. It’s been eight weeks yesterday since we lost her. She actually felt like an integral part of our family. Still grieving a lot. Time will help heal.

Thank you, Diana. We do find comfort in what we gave both Vivian and Maisie. In time I hope we can rescue one or two other kitties who are in need of a loving home. Perhaps in the spring. ❤️

Oh, Jennifer, I am so sorry for your loss. Each kitty is special, but (don’t tell them) there’s always one a bit more special than the others. We’ve had to say goodbye to several cats now and each one was precious, each one gave us so many memories to cling to, no matter how many years go by. We still talk about them and cry over them. Grief doesn’t go away. It just becomes part of the fabric of our lives.
I hope you can find comfort in your memories of the wonderful years you all had together.

Thank you so much, Marie. I agree with everything you said, and I will add that, as I heard somewhere, grief is love that has no place to go. When I’m ready, I will rescue another cat—or two—because the love and affection I have for cats should be put to good use. As soon as the pain subsides, just a bit…

We’re fortunate to have two cats still with us, and it does help, at least as far as distracting us from losing Junior in September. Sadly, neither of them is a lap kitty like Junior was … at least, not yet 😉 Hope springs eternal.

Yes they can behave very differently. Maisie was so quiet you hardly knew she was in the house most of the time, whereas Vivian was extremely vocal. They both liked laps though. I miss that very much.

Oh, indeed. For a few winters, while we had both Junior and Maxine (a tuxedo), my husband would spend the mornings reading, stretched out on the couch with Junior on his legs and Max on his stomach. I still miss seeing him anchored with those two as well as he still misses their warmth and weight. We’re just hoping that Wendy and Raji eventually learn the value of a lap.

Herman, you and Bowie ( and now Jimi) were among Vivian’s first followers here on WordPress, so you know how special she was. Thank you for your kind words and shared grief! It means a lot.

Oh, Jennifer…I am so sorry. As soon as I read the first couple words of this post, I knew this was not a good news post. My cats lived their best lives through Vivian’s outdoor adventures. They are heartbroken, as well. Rest in peace, sweet girl. Hugs to you, Jennifer.

Thank you, Darlene. As you and all pet lovers know, they are our babies and naturally we miss them when they are no longer with us. Vivian was such an affectionate girl. We will miss her immensely.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Yes the pain is real and can last for a very long time please don’t let anyone tell you any differently. I still miss some of 4-legged companions deeply. I do know they continue to live in my heart – and i would guess Vivian would for your – but it is not the same. Grief is hard and tiring and debilitating. I hope you and Paul can find some support in each other and are gentle w/ yourselves.
you have my deepest sympathies for your loss.
