A Look Back on 2023*

I honestly can’t believe how fast this year flew by. 2023 was quite eventful, what with signing a new publishing contract—YAY!—as well as reaching a couple of personal milestones. More on those in a bit.

Not everything was rosy, however.

As many of you know, we had to say goodbye to our Vivian in November. Eight weeks later, the grief is still so raw, so fresh. I think the only way to ease the loss is to rescue another cat, or two, come spring.

Now for the milestones.
In 2023, our house here on Perry’s Point turned one hundred years old!

We’ve lived here since we left the city in 2010, with very few regrets. Paul and I love it here next to the ocean and away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

If you haven’t already, check out my post from 2020, Ten Years in This Old House, to see how we spruced it up before we moved in.

Milestone Number 2: On August 15th, Paul and I celebrated our silver wedding anniversary.

25 years married to my best friend. Of course Paul always reminds me we were together four years before our wedding day. 💕

I am deeply thankful on this New Year’s Eve for many things, and one of them is having you, my blogger friends, in my life. Each of you have made blogging much more meaningful than I ever thought possible when I started this journey.
Which just so happened to be on New Year’s Eve, 2011.

Wishing you good health and happiness in 2024!

How was your 2023?

  1. Jennifer, your house is so picturesque! I love it … and that you have a nice long laundry line. I miss having one.

Belated congratulations on your 25th wedding anniversary. My husband also often notes that we were together long before we got married. He prefers to date our relationship from our first date 😉

Waiting until spring to adopt a rescue (or two) sounds like a good plan. Your grief will still be keenly felt, but you might feel ready to say yes to a furry one needing a good home. And there are always kitties needing a home, aren’t there?

    Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Marie, I see you made another comment! Thanks for the well wishes. Our husbands think alike! ☺️
There are always cats, the poor things, who need rescuing, and I do think Spring will be the right time. 🐈
All the best to you in 2024!

      1. Sorry for the additional comment. 🙂 I am having some difficulties with WordPress as a reader. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to tell when a comment of mine “sticks” so I leave another to play it safe.🤷🏼‍♀️

  2. I love your house! The photo is so picturesque. What I would give to have a laundry line. Clothes smell so much better when they’ve been dried outside. (Belated) Congratulations on your 25th wedding anniversary. That is a lovely milestone. (My husband also marks our “union” as much earlier than our wedding day.) I’m sure your heart will bend to take in a rescue (or two) come spring. That would be a good time when your grief is still keenly felt but you can’t say no. Happy New Year, Jennifer!

  3. Hi Jennifer – congratulations on your big milestones (is that repetitive?). I love your house and how bright the color is against the sky. I’m sorry to have missed your news about signing a new publishing contract – that’s terrific! I’m looking forward to more posts and pictures from you in 2024 and maybe a kitten or 2 😉 Happy New Year!
