“Our house is a very, very, very
fine house … “

… With two cats in the yard …

… Life used to be so hard … now everything is easy ’cause of you.” 💕

I know, I know. Lou and Gord don’t go out in the yard. They are indoor cats. However, we are considering buying leashes and harnesses to take them outside when summer comes. We’ll see!
*Our House, a song by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Lou and Gord are beautiful cats, Jennifer. And I love that song, by the way. If you do get leashes and harnesses for them in the spring, I hope you will post pictures of your outdoor excursions! Stay warm inside for now! It’s 14 degrees here right now and we are under a foot of snow

We treasure Lou and Gord, Barbara. They add so much fun and love to our lives. 😊 As for that song, it’s constantly going through my head since I posted this. I love it too.
You stay warm as well. We are having an old-fashioned winter here, that’s for sure. Lots of snow, and the wind is crazy here on the Point. I can’t wait til spring!

I’m getting tired of the big piles of snow at every corner and the mountains of snow in parking lots!

This post made me smile. They are so regal looking and comfy home buddies. 😊

Regal looking! I like that. Posts with our pets in them are definitely smile-inducing. 😊 Thanks for stopping by, Carol.

I’ve found it’s easiest to train cats to leashes when they are young, so good luck with that!

Ahh! Where they are two and four, it might be more of a challenge. Thanks for the advice, Marie!

Bless! Lou and Gourd look so comfortable and at peace! It’s great they bring you so much joy, Jennifer. My son and his fiancée have two beautiful cats which are also kept indoors and are out on a leash. It works very well for them and all most contented!

Thanks, Annika! Do you know if your son’s cats cry to go out in between, though? Or do they only respond when invited? That is the biggest concern we have, that we would be opening the floodgates to a lot of bawling to go outside all time? Perhaps we’re worrying for nothing?

No bawling at all, Jennifer. Sometimes they will show they are keen to go out otherwise wait until invited out. They have built a ‘catio’ attached to the house – quite a large area which they access from inside the house and can be outdoors securely. It is built from wooden and chicken wire. Hope this helps and your cats look so peaceful and content!

Aww, we dreamed about putting a catio outside, Annika, but I think our climate would require it to be as sturdy as our house. Crazy wind here. Thinking strongly on the leashes though. Another commenter mentioned starting them at it as kittens is best, so there’s that. We shall see. Thanks for your input! 😊

What a cozy little window into your world! 🏡✨ I could almost hear “Our House” playing in the background while scrolling through the photos — the way you describe Lou and Gord just radiates that gentle, everyday kind of joy. Those two look like royalty in their fine abode, and I loved how your words and images capture both the calm and the charm of home life.
The idea of harnessing cats feels thrilling and a tad chaotic (double trouble indeed 😄), but honestly? It seems like a perfect little adventure — especially with two curious floofs leading the way. Thanks for sharing this peaceful Sunday moment; it made my day a bit softer and brighter. 💛

Dogs have humans. Cats have staff from what I understand.

So I’ve heard. Except these two give tons of affection to their staff. 🥰😻

Hi. My next-door neighbor keeps his cat LouLou on a leash when he takes it outside. I cross paths with them pretty often. LouLou likes me. He comes over to be petted when he sees me.

That’s so sweet, Neil. We didn’t want to let Lou and Gord run free because of the many scrapes Vivian got into when she lived here. If we do let them out, there will definitely be leashes.

We take our cat Misty outside in a harness and leash every morning. Took a bit of training of him and us, but now it works very well. 🙂

Thanks, Dave! Do you take Misty out in the winter too? I suppose once we start, they will want to go out all the time. Any tips you can share with me on training them would be much appreciated. 🙂

Yes, we’ve done it year round since 2018, but as Misty gets older (he’s about 10 now), he usually takes shorter walks in the winter or doesn’t go out at all when we give him the option.
We tend to give Misty a treat to help lure him into the harness, and give him another treat when he comes back inside. During the first few weeks of walks in ’18, we held on to the leash at all times, but then gradually dropped the leash at times while still following closely behind.
Given that you have two kitties, it would of course be harder for you than it has been for us.

Yes, double trouble, haha. Thank you, Dave for taking the time to share your tips. We aren’t entirely sure if we will yet, but would like to give it a go. As I said in the post, we will see!

“Double trouble” — 🙂 Good luck if you decide to go the harness route, Jennifer! If you do, I imagine we’ll see a blog post about it. 🙂

Kate, are you referring to the cats, or the staircase? 😀

The cats of course! 🙂

I thought so. Though the 102 year-old staircase isn’t too shabby. lol

When there are cats in the pictures, I don’t see anything else. I’ve had cats with a lot of white in them but your cats are bright white. Sasha has a white belly but prefers to distribute her white floofs all over the floor.

I hear ya. Maybe cleaner because they’re indoor cats?

Sasha is an indoor cat. She’s a long hair so maybe it’s shadows but her white isn’t as bright as your cats!
