A Purry Point of View Part 2: Louie

Hi Folks and Felines! Louie here, finally getting my turn to guest blog on Jennifer’s Journal.

Louie Reed Purry

Gordie really let me have it on his guest post last time, didn’t he? Well, guess what? I’m here to spill the tea on him! You see, my new brother for the last six months is not as innocent as he would have you believe.

Gordon Downie Purry

It all happened last fall on Thanksgiving Sunday. After Jennifer and Paul had their meal of roast turkey with all the trimmings, they were about to relax in the living room and leave the turkey, covered in foil, on the counter to finish cooling before putting it in the refrigerator.

But knowing how hungry Gordie seemed to act all the time, Paul suggested putting it back in the oven with the door just ajar.

Lo and behold, when Jennifer came out to get a drink, what did she see? My brother Gordie SITTING ON THE OVEN DOOR, FACE INTO THE TURKEY! He had torn the foil neatly away and had taken a perfect circle of bites out of the drumstick. He looked at her as if to say “Nothing to see here!” All Jennifer could do was laugh.

You see, as was explained to me, Gordon had a somewhat severe case of what is known as food insecurity. Because he had been a runaway stray for a long period of time before his adoption, he was overly anxious about when he would get his next meal. He isn’t as bad as that anymore, thank goodness. The worst he’s done since is grab a pack of deli ham off the counter where it was defrosting. Jennifer found his unsuccessful attempt to open it on the floor with a few tooth marks in it.

I’ve grown to love my silly sibling, even though he does weird things sometimes—just like me.

Oh, I almost forgot: look what Jennifer’s daughter included with her and Paul’s Christmas presents:

🐾 Kitty-approved! 🐾

Aren’t we cute? These socks were made specially by soxos.ca, a proudly Canadian company. 🇨🇦

Thanks, Jennifer, for letting me share my two cents on your blog. Purrs and nose bumps to all, love Louie. 🐾

  1. Cute socks! I wonder if they will ship to the US sans tariffs? Just joking (sort of), although I’ll still check them out. It would be fun to have socks with the faces of my precious two on them.

Now, Louie, you are a bit of a tattle-tail (tale), aren’t you? 😹 A few of our cats have also experienced food insecurity. In fact, many years ago, after we rescued Luisa (RIP) from a park, we timed her as she dug into a bowl of dry cat food. Ten minutes. She didn’t stop eating for ten minutes! That’s when we started portioning everyone’s meals because Luisa would constantly eat if we let her. These days, it’s Wendy we have to watch. I found Wendy at a Wendy’s fast food place so naturally she has a jones for bread. I once saw her try to make off with a full loaf of bread 😹

    1. Oh Marie, you certainly know of what Louie speaks! 😆 Seriously, though, my heart breaks when I think of them hungry in the past, and it’s perfectly understandable why they become food insecure. Your cats’ behaviour sounds very much like our Gordon.
I think they ship the socks everywhere. We love them. ❤️

  3. This post made me happy and also made me think of Archie my sister’s kitty who loves cream cheese and the other day when Sue had the fridge open Archie saw the cream cheese jumped up snatched it and ran off with Sue chasing him say give me back the damn cheese.

  4. I’ve had cats with food insecurity and they had it for life. Gracie was a dumpster diver dumping our trash if we had any meat bits in it. We got into the routine of putting that kind of trash directly out in the garage but she sure looked funny running around with a pork chop almost as big as she was!

          1. When we adopted her she was 5 lbs and estimated to be between 1 and 6 years old (vet thought on the older side, rescue on the younger maybe to help with adoption). After getting all the food she wanted (and she became the pickiest cat of all), she still enjoyed the occasional romp in the trash bin.

  5. Oh, Louie, you are hilarious! I did get a visual of Gordie sitting on the oven door with his face in the turkey and it was funny. I am guessing you and your brother are keeping Paul and Jennifer very happily entertained. My kitties send love from Florida. 😻

    1. Louie forgot to mention about the partially eaten drumstick—it got saved for Gordie to eat over the next few days. 😂 Louie didn’t care for it much. Thanks, Lois. Sending love back to you and your kitties. Cats can indeed be hilarious at times! 😻
