This meme popped up again recently on social media. Nothing groundbreaking, and of course there are other ways to learn to be more empathetic, but it resonates with this blogger.
Reading good books to young children has to be one of the most loving and fun ways to teach empathy. I don’t know who wrote the quote, but I can’t help but agree with it. How about you?

Thanks, Lois. And if there is one thing this world needs, it’s more empathy, however it’s learned or gained.

A GREAT meme, Jennifer! The importance of reading books has rarely been summed up better.

Through many of my reading years, the building of empathy hadn’t occurred to me. But it’s so true. And that goes for audiobooks too, for those who like them. Thanks, Dave.

That quote is so true. I once saw author Steven Pinker talk about his book, “The Better Angels of our Nature.” He credits the printing press and books for creating empathy and lessoning violence in the world.

He was right, I believe. Unfortunately, devices have taken over, attention spans have shortened, and books have fallen by the wayside for many. It’s so sad.
