Happy Sunday, all!
This afternoon has me wistfully looking back on our European trip, yet again. For this post in particular, I’m reminiscing about Paris and our visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral.
As enthralling as it was to take a tour inside this extraordinary example of French Gothic architecture, I was equally enamored with the feathery congregation outside!
In April of 2019, a massive fire tore through the roof of the Notre Dame, but a restoration by artisans is in the works. I have a feeling these birds have missed the tourists and will be happy when this historic cathedral reopens in 2024.
By the way, did you know that February is National Bird Feeding Month in the U.S.?

Jennifer, it is lovely to reminisce about one’s trips and wow, it must have been amazing to be in Paris and visit the famous Notre Dame. It’s nearly an overwhelming emotional experience and I can understand that the birds add a fun and enjoyable variety to the day. It was horrendous to see the fire in the cathedral and I think the rebuilding work is coming along apace! Will you be able to visit Paris again? xx

Hi Annika, as amazing as Paris was and always will be in my memory, if we visit Europe again it will be primarily to see England, and maybe other parts of the UK. Your adopted country is so very beautiful too. 💕

Oh yes, Jill, you have those sweet hummingbirds who visit you so much! We get mainly seabirds and grass birds, snowbirds in winter, and pigeons. Snowy owls, eagles and hawks sometimes too.

I love watching birds and I’m excited to know about the National Bird Feeding Month in the U.S. It matches up with the Great Backyard Bird Count, which I think is global. I am in awe of birds, particularly the species that live in northern climes. To see seabirds swimming around in icy waters as if they are swans in a park always amazes me. You have a good week too, Neil!

Welcome to Sunday Stills, Jennifer, so nice to have you join us with your wonderful bird photos! What a crowd, I guess the birds know they stand to get some great treats from the tourists. I had heard about the Notre Dame fire, such a tragedy but 2024 is getting closer! Sounds like a wonderful trip!

What wonderful memories–well, awful about ND. I haven’t kept up with how they’re doing restoring it. I visited it 30 years ago. What a beautiful structure.

This is wonderful. I was in Notre Dame Cathedral the year before it burned. So sad. I’ve just finished writing, Amanda in France: Fire in the Cathedral. I’m sure you can guess what it is about. What a sight feeding the birds must have been. What time of year was it?

This was in June of 2011. Where has the time gone?
