Please encourage your children to read.
Give them books they would enjoy for Christmas.
Take them to the public library to get their own library card.
If they are too young to read themselves, read them bedtime stories.
It’s never too early to inspire a love of good books. No, they won’t all become leaders, but research shows that reading to children and discussing the book is the best way to increase your child’s IQ and instill a love of reading.
So important! Wise words 🙏🏻

Very wise advice Jennifer, I don’t know where I’d be if I’d never started reading as a child.

Me neither. I know I’m preaching to the choir with you and many others. 😊

Yep. And I wish all parents would read aloud to their kids. Nothing like it.

So true, Jan. Also a great way to bond with a child.

Yeah!! Life without reading is unimaginable for me and it’s vital to start young … the world would seem empty without the gift of books, their stories, information …

I would be lost without books too. The problem these days is there are so many other things vying for kids’ attention: gaming, internet, and smartphones just for starters. We didn’t have so many distractions growing up.

Even when your kids can read, continue to read aloud to them as long as they enjoy it. Children’s listening comprehension is usually higher than their independent reading ability. This means they can understand stories they can’t yet read on their own like Alice and Wonderland or The Hobbit. Reading with children creates closeness and fond memories.

Good post. It is a lot easier to turn kids into readers than it sounds.

It is, Jacqui. They won’t all be bookworms, but they can be taught to appreciate good literature at any age.
