“Our familiar garden by the sea has transformed . . . each bramble and bush laminated in a thick, crystalline coat, every amber blade dressed in its stiff raiment of frost. With a watchful step, I venture out on the crust of snow.” – Jennifer Kelland Perry, Endless Chill
Has winter arrived in your backyard?
Gorgeous, Jennifer – image and words.

I totally want to steal laminated as it relates to describing ice. Nice!

Wonderful photo and beautiful descriptive writing, Jennifer…captures the magic of this crisp winter scene perfectly! I love weather like this…not the slush that follows!

Thanks so much, Annika. It was a magical, glittery day! We must appreciate them in between the slushy ones. 😊

What a marvellous pic! I wonder what puss is thinking? It may seem cold for some, but our Christmases are all dust and kangaroos, and when it is 85 and up, you’ll find many of us wishing for snow!

Thanks, Susan! Yes it was pretty crusty that day for a cat.
Oh my, you’re the second one to tell me about Australia weather – still seems odd to me how you are the opposite of us in seasons.

Ha ha I agree … and don’t get me started on the time zones!

Love this shot! Winter has arrived, but when it’s a balmy 40-something with no snow, it sure is easier to take:).

Thank you so much! As for the weather, all I hope is that we can get where we need to go for Christmas. After that, I don’t care how many storms we get. 🙂

As long as you’re not in Atlanta, hopefully you can!

This is a great picture – I’m thinking your cat is wondering how he/she will navigate through the slippery ice! Winter has come in spurts here, as it always does in the northeast – snow, brutal cold, then 40 degree weather, then snow showers just to make the roads slippery!

I love the clarity of this photo. It was one of the first ones I took with my new camera. Maisie didn’t stay out long that day! 🙂
Our weather was like yours until just recently. Now it seems the cold wants to stay. Oh well!

Beautiful shot, Jennifer! I’m with Carrie, not happy to be freezing every day, but…I’ll look forward to spring. 🙂

Thanks, Jill. I’m actually with both of you. I much prefer getting this season overwith! 😀

It got very cold here (for Florida) and now we are looking at rain. We do not have the beautiful winters that you have.
I have a question for you, Jennifer. I watched a show on Netflix that was all about Fogo Island Inn. Is that close to you? Have you been? It looks amazing and when they showed the surrounding scenery, it looked like photos you have posted on your blog, so I was curious. Thank you!

Fogo Island is very close to us, just an hour away to get to the ferry. That said, the last time we were there, they were just beginning to build the inn. We plan to go back there next summer if all goes well. I noticed that too, how the scenery is very much like here.
Interesting how you saw it on Netflix! 🙂

The show is something about hotels…’Beyond the Lobby.’ They show some very amazing hotels! I would love to know what you think of it. Thanks so much, Jennifer.

I’ll have to check and see if it’s on Canadian Netflix. 🙂
