 Ah… the written word. It has been my truest passion since my chubby little hands first held a book and my eager, unfledged mind tried to unlock the enchantment within its pages.

As I know it is with many of you, reading since childhood has taken me everywhere, through experiences and adventures in exotic lands beyond my horizon, and all the way back to the charm – or heartbreak – of a domestic story around the corner.

Books have allowed me to journey along with colourful, unforgettable characters, to get inside their minds, to live other, more fascinating lives. And between the lines, some books have given…

  1. Jennifer, I’m so happy you shared this post with us! I can never tire talking of books and the quotes at the end were delightful – I love th Cicero one…books and a garden are a heavenly combination! Oh yes,I always have a book or two on the go and grab a few minutes during the day if I can to read as well as every night. Can’t imagine how I’d survive without escaping into the imaginary wonderful world of fiction. Happy Reading, my friend, 😀📚

    1. My pleasure, Annika. 🙂 Books are a shared passion between many bloggers here, as you’re well aware, and I treasure that. I was also lucky enough to find and marry a true bibliophile, my hubby Paul. We can’t imagine a bookless world either!

  2. I commented two days ago on your original post, but all of my comments to bloggers went into Spam that day (!!) so I’ll try again here. I wrote that I go NOWHERE without a book in hand: in the car, to the dentist’s, out for lunch with a friend, etc. Because we never know when we may have a minute to ourselves, and when we do, we want to jump back into the time/place/predicament “we” (our character, and by now we are part of that character) is in. Another reason I love to write. I like to jump in and create the time/place/predicament with my own set of characters too. 🙂

    1. I just found your comment in my spam folder this morning!
      As you mention, we love writing for some of the same reasons we love to read. As a twice-published author and working on a third, I find myself more critical of some of the books I read. If something doesn’t flow well or if, heaven forbid, there is a typo or spelling or grammar mistake, it takes me right out of the book and my editor hat falls swiftly in place. Of course the best books don’t do this and only fill me with admiration. 🙂

      1. Yes, I’m more critical now that I’ve published my own books now, also, Jennifer. I think we see how many times we edit and proof and send our drafts out to beta readers etc etc., so if another author hasn’t seemed to have taken the same amount of time and effort before he/she published, well, that that turns us off! :-0

  4. This repurposing old posts works nicely for me, Jennifer as I didn’t follow you back in 2014. Love the post. Absolutely with you and Carrie and Jill on the sentiment. I can’t go anywhere without a book (er, on my Kindle app).

      1. I do understand! My newest novel will be out March 27th. Meanwhile I finished the first draft of the second in that series and am working on the first draft of another novel in a different genre, so writing’s going pretty well, thanks. But I’d always like to get more words in each day. I know you get that. Happy writing to you!

        1. That’s awesome, Carrie! You’ve been very busy. I didn’t know you were doing a series. I’m considering leaving some questions unanswered at the end of my WIP, in case I choose to go ahead with the series I’ve in mind.
