Trios of Fun

One of the first composition principles a student of photography learns is the rule of thirds.

Storytelling, too, can rely on the rule of three, using repetition of a part of the story to build and then resolve tension.

But what about the number three applied to life and people?

When it comes to a trio of children, the general rule is usually FUN!

Born into a family of three children, I already know this.
Of course, I also know the mischief three little people can get up to.

I was looking after my grandchildren one day, when they and their friend asked me if they could paint their faces. Thinking that the girls, being older, had the good judgement not to use markers, I said “Sure, go ahead.”

Off they went to their playroom. To make a long story short, it took quite a bit of soap and elbow grease that night to erase most of the wonderful face art by marker (so my daughter informed me). Our little boy ended up sporting green eyebrows for a couple of weeks!

Oh dear. My bad.

The moral of the story? Grandmas can make boo-boos sometimes too.

Fun is not limited to children, of course. Get the right three adults together and laughter will surely ensue.

When that trio includes my husband and his sister Julie,
who both love hamming it up for the camera, fun is guaranteed.

  2. Jennifer catching up here, My smile was so big looking at all these captures. Love the Jump and the face paint. I remember my sister and I putting chewing gum on our eyebrows…. black cat and boy did it stick. Kids will be kids. I feel like a wine and a sit on my deck now and its only 6am.

      1. Maybe we were trying to be Groucho Marx who knows??? Very hot here now at 6PM where did this day go? And I wish I had a wine in the fridge, too far to drive and get some, oh well have to make do with a mineral water ho hum.

  3. Your grand-children look adorable. I too had a day when my grand-children ended up with paint from markers all over (luckily for me, just the hands).
    My suggested trio for life is: courage – kindness – fairness.

  9. What a sweet post. Love the persistent green eyebrows. Too funny.

    When I go to New Hampshire to visit family, my mother, sister, and I make a fun trio. We can always make each other laugh, and even after all these years, it’s still fun for siblings to tease their mother. Which, of course, she loves. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Carrie. Nanny makes mistakes too. 😛 I still wonder what Amy’s mom thought of it all!

      You, your sister and your mom sound like a fun trio. I remember how we often gave our mom a goodnatured ribbing. I miss those days a lot.
