If There’s A God In Heaven (What’s He Waiting For?)

Torn from their families
Mothers go hungry
To feed their children
But children go hungry

There’s so many big men
They’re out making millions
When poverty’s profits
Just blame the children

If there’s a God in heaven
What’s he waiting for?
If he can’t hear the children
Then he must see the war

But it seems to me
That he leads his lambs
To the slaughter house
And not the promised land

Dying for causes
They don’t understand
We’ve been taking their futures
Right out of their hands

They need the handouts
To hold back the tears
There’s so many crying
But so few that hear

If there’s a God in heaven
What’s he waiting for?
If he can’t hear the children
Then he must see the war

But it seems to me
That he leads his lambs
To the slaughter house
And not the promised land

If there’s a God in heaven
What’s he waiting for?
If he can’t hear the children
Then he must see the war

But it seems to me
That he leads his lambs
To the slaughter house
And not the promised land

If there’s a God in heaven
Well, what’s he waiting for?
If there’s a God in heaven
What’s he waiting for?

Repeat

  1. Yes, sometimes one thinks that it all could have been done better with a little planning. Cut out the poverty and disease and greed and war and turbulence. It would have made the world a better place… and we could have all just enjoyed growing old.

  2. Jennifer, the words of this song are poignant. When we point a finger at God, there are always three pointing back at us. We need to love our neighbor in word and deed. We’re tragically killing each other off and the planet to boot. I’m glad there’s an afterlife that will make up for the suffering that took place here. Even the memory of pain will be gone.

    1. Wendy, that is pretty much what the lyrics are saying: humankind is not taking care of each other as well as they could or should. It’s a crying shame when the love of power and money takes precedence over a child’s life. I mean no offense to you or your belief system when I say counting on an afterlife isn’t the answer. But I do agree the answer lies in each and every one of us.
      Now back to Nanowrimo! 😉

  3. There is a God in heaven and he hears the cries and the answer he gives, is us… we see the wars, we see the hungry, what are we willing to do?

    I love Elton John Jennifer!

    1. Yes, Diana, and yet “there’s so many crying, but so few that hear”. It still comes back to the question: how can a loving God witness and allow such devastation for all of those innocent souls whose cries go unanswered? No easy answers there.
I have loved Elton since the beginning of his career. My early teen years were set to the soundtrack of his many albums. ❤

        1. Absolutely, we are all accountable and have to figure out a way to help, and however insignificant it may seem to each of us individually, it may be huge to someone else. Morally and ethically, it is the right thing to do, to do the best we can. This is true if God is considered part of the equation or not. xo
