Greenspond – Part II

After completing the hiking trail on Saturday, my husband and I took a drive through scenic Greenspond.

It is an especially nice time to visit because of the pleasant weather. The little outport town sparkles like a jewel in the afternoon sun, the plaintive cries of seagulls the only sounds that break the silence.

198The breeze has abated entirely, leaving the surface of the harbour basin as smooth as a mirror.

212Pretty houses dot the land while oddly shaped chunks of iceberg dot the still blue water.

208The peacefulness of the setting is magical, meditative, hypnotizing.
215I am drawn to its perfect calm…
209…and I drink in its beauty as I quietly reflect.

210Troubles melt away…
216…and make room for inspiration.
218We stop to admire this gem of a property. Everything about it is impeccable, from the patchwork quilt on the clothesline…

219…to the softly scalloped valances in each window.
To me, it is a work of art.

Have you ever visited a place that seemed the perfect setting for a story?
Where do you go to think and dream?

  1. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Peaceful and tranquil. There’s something about being around the ocean that is magical. It draws you in and gives you a feeling of serenity. You get lost in it’s beauty. Having grown up by the water it’s always been my refuge. A place to go to collect your thoughts and just be. Nothing like the picturesque beauty from the little outports.

    1. I agree, Joanne. This is one of my favourite blog posts for its tranquil images. That day was a piece of heaven.
I see I’m not the only one who is drawn to the ocean. 🙂 Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

  2. Jennifer those a some outstanding photos, I go to the beach to think about stories, yet most of my grand ideas come whilst driving, as we live so far from anywhere important I have plenty of time.

  3. I know there are a lot of heavenly sceneries but this one’s just beautiful. It quenches one’s poignancy and gives a tranquil feeling. Paradise amazingly caught on lenses.

  4. Hi, Mabel, thanks for your lovely comments. Inspiration can be found in many places, but I find the quiet spaces perfect for relaxation and renewal. Looking at a white ceiling can work too! 🙂

  5. That is one blue sky, and wow, it makes the water in the lake look stunning. Looking at these pictures, it’s as if time has stopped still for a moment. Or two. Great work, Jennifer.

When I want to relax and dream, I like to flop on my bed at home, lie on my back and look up at my white ceiling. Maybe close my eyes. If I’m lucky and don’t fall asleep, I usually come up with ideas for articles I want to write. If not the bed, then the shower 😀 If not, then a quiet spot in Melbourne’s scenic CBD will do the trick 🙂

  6. Oh Jennifer it is so beautiful there and your photos are stunning! Where do I go to think and dream? To water. Usually the Elbow or Bow rivers here in Calgary. Where do I dream of going to think and dream? Back to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic!

    1. What is it about water? I’ve always felt a need to be near it, and now I live directly next to the Atlantic. I love it.

I hope you get to revisit the DR, Diana, and not have to dream about it anymore. 😉

        1. I may be out to lunch, but I wonder if it has anything to do with being in the womb, surrounded by water? Unconsciously remembering when we were rocked inside and feeling soothed? Ha ha!

          1. that’s what I thought in the DR! So easy to float in the ocean, I even brought my knees up like a sitting position and rocked. Seriously, I told people about it and everything!

    1. Thanks, Andy. They are all ocean views, however. The town got its name from two local surnames: Green and Pond. 🙂 Perhaps also because the shelter of the harbour makes it look like a pond.
