A Walking Trail, Bergy-Bits, and Other Pretty Things

Saturday was such a gorgeous day in our corner of the world, one had to get out and enjoy it. We decided to drive to Greenspond, a community comprised of several islands not far from where we live. Connected to the mainland of Newfoundland by a causeway, Greenspond boasts a wonderful walking trail around most of the perimeter of its largest island. It was perfect weather with light winds, so I took my camera.

This is the view from Perry’s Point before we left. The icebergs dotting the horizon were too far away to get good shots.

171Once we got on the trail, it didn’t take long for us to discover our first “bergy bit” floating like an ice sculpture in a peaceful cove.
201The walking trail winds through the rocky terrain, carrying us through the brush and bog.
197The views of the coastline and of the Atlantic are spectacular.

Some were quite steep, making for a great workout.

  5. Jennifer, these are gorgeous pictures! I certainly didn’t see any icebergs on our Victoria Day weekend walks–but I can see our local glacier up in the mountain from our garden. Those bergs really do look like art sculptures.

You may think you are simply going for a walk and taking photos along the way, but you are doing more than that as your peaceful day is captured and tele-ported over to me here in Australia inspiring me.

        1. Yes, I’ve seen those places too. I love Montreal especially. Girl, if you get as far as Nova Scotia, you are almost here! You might as well hop on the ferry. 🙂

          Seriously, NL is a little out of the way, but I’m so glad I live here – in spring, summer and fall anyway.

  12. The Greenspond walking trail is one of my favorite places ever!
    My long weekend is taken up with work- but when your job is as fun as mine, that’s a good thing! I’ve had a few visitors at Norton’s Cove Studio who have been out looking for iceberg pictures and exploring the coast, just like you! Icebergs are like whales to me- no matter how many times I get close to one, it’s thrilling every time!

    1. The trail is wonderful, and something we look forward to every year. It’s usually a windy spot but Saturday was just about perfect. The only thing that would have made it completely perfect would have been spotting a whale! Thanks, Janet.

  13. I love the floating bits of ice – it looks so gorgeous there Jennifer! Yesterday I took a long walk and took a bunch of black and white photos of the city. I posted it on facebook and called it Concrete Jungle. Sunday I spent a good part of the day working on promotional material for my little company. I’ll have to proof that tomorrow!
