I was a little disappointed this morning when I learned our area wouldn’t be getting the big dumping of snow that St. John’s and the rest of the Avalon Peninsula has in their forecast. Everyone there is bracing for up to seventy centimeters of the white stuff, while we are only expecting five to ten.
Boo! 😦
But then along came a little visitor down by our beach.
I thought it was an adult harp seal first, because he appeared to be mostly black.
But as I inched closer…and he turned to see me…
I could see more spottiness and some “whitecoat” on his other side.
When I reassured him that I meant no harm, he seemed to squint his eyes…sort of like my cats do when I talk “love talk” to them. 🙂
Don’t worry, little seal.
You are so very close to my house.
I’m not fond of seal meat or flipper pie, so you have nothing to fear from me.
So even though I’m going to miss the big snowfall back home, I never could have gotten these pics back in my old backyard !
To see photos of the baby seal, or whitecoat, that visited us last winter, click here, and scroll down. 🙂
Ha ha, Wayne…I know you really can’t wait to get back on Perry’s Point (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). You’re just going to have to put up with that Florida weather for another bit longer. Poor you!
All the same, we are missing you guys. I’m glad you liked my pics and thank you for stopping by. 🙂

Cool pictures, or should I say “cold”. Wish we were home to see it…(oops!! Did I actually write that). Keep on taking the photos like that one so we will miss “home”, but we are really OK where we’re at. I think you know what I mean.

Jennifer what a wonderful treat to have a visit from this beautiful creature. I know he will have no worries of any harm coming to him in your backyard. I was wondering how the tides surges are affecting your area? That in its self is a scary sight. Love reading your stories and seeing the pics of your Grandchildren, they are adorable.

Hi, Wenda! Thank you for visiting my blog again and for your lovely comments. 🙂
The sea surges are pretty spectacular here this winter. I’ve never seen the waves so high. Thankfully, our house and property although very close to the ocean, are well above sea level, so I think it would have to be one wild tsunami to put us in any danger!

Neat! Ain’t no seals in my backyard!!!!! That salt air is invigorating. I liked the comment about its squinting eyes. We see it in our cats, too, all the time. Did the seal purr? Lol! Now that, as cute as the seal is, would be dangerously close. Then again, the seal got friendlier as you grew closer. Maybe he wanted a gentle brush along his head & neck. Thanks for posting this. You have the professional touch!!

Ha ha, no I didn’t hear any purring, Kev. Thanks so much for your kind words, and thanks for checking in on my blog.

Thanks, Meg. I thought he would swim away any minute but he stayed for almost half the day.

He is, isn’t he? That’s why I blogged about him; not many can get this close to one in its natural habitat. 🙂
